Female Athlete Program
Females, and specifically female athletes, have different factors that contribute to musculoskeletal injuries when compared to their male counterparts. A recent Harvard study highlighted the fact that higher levels of estrogen, less overall muscle mass, greater flexibility (sometimes due to ligament laxity), a wider pelvis and a higher likelihood of inadequate calcium and vitamin D intake all play a role in making females a different and likely higher injury risk than males. Due to these differences and specific needs of the female athlete, they also require a different and specific program to address these injuries.
Georgialina Physical Therapy is proud to now offer Sportsmetrics Programs for ACL injury prevention and rehabilitation. Sportsmetrics is the first and largest ACL injury prevention program that has been scientifically proven to decrease serious knee ligament injuries in female athletes. In this program, jumping drills are used to teach the athlete to proposition the entire body safely when jumping and landing. These exercises are designed for neuromuscular retraining with progressively more complex and difficult exercises. They address muscle strengthening, muscle recruitment patterns, landing and deceleration patterns, proprioception, and plyometrics. Our specialty-trained physical therapists have advanced certifications as Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), Athletic Training and Sportsmetrics Training. Their advanced education and training along with interventions such as Kinesiotaping, Motion Analysis, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), joint mobilizations, and therapeutic exercises will assist you with preventing or overcoming your injury to get you back to your sport as quickly as possible.
